Third in a series
It began with an 11-0 victory over Las Vegas Durango on April 16, 2003, and when it ended on March 12, 2005, with a 4-3 loss to Newhall Hart, the Chancellors had made history by piecing together a 54-game winning streak that remains a state record.
Along the way, the Chancellors won 18 games by shutout, 21 games by the 10-run rule and outscored opponents, 513 runs to 99. Chatsworth won 27 games at home, 16 on the road and 11 on neutral fields.
Perhaps none of the victories were more important than Nos. 15 and 50, which came at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles City Section championship games. The first one, 9-2 over Carson, clinched a mythical national title for the Chancellors, the first in school history. The second, 7-1 over San Pedro, secured a 35-0 record and a second consecutive national title.
Interestingly, Chatsworth had won 18 games in a row to start the 2003 season before losing in a game at the Las Vegas Durango tournament. The winning streak started the next day. Also, the Chancellors won 18 consecutive games after the streak ended.
